The Tranquille Valley Community Association (TVCA) was formed to support the Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program (NEPP), and other community endeavours. Our local Thompson-Nicola Regional Director advised us that if we were not a registered Society the TNRD would be unable to help us with any funding or emergency equipment. The TVCA was created as a registered society in 2006.Â
It’s important that we preserve our country lifestyle. It may not be obvious, but we do have occasional challenges. Individuals are useless against governments, it takes numbers. For polite and civilized Canadians like ourselves to get the attention of our government, we need to be organized and speak with one voice.
When the Thomson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) wanted to shut down our local transfer station our TVCA president spoke on the importance of the transfer station to the area and resulted in the retention of our site.Â
Currently we are working on a Community and Emergency Center where we can house a fire truck and provide a helipad for emergency medical evacuation. Grants of lands and money from various levels of government will provide resources to build the center. The TVCA is integral in lobbying the governments for these resources.
Living in this area we are aware of the dangers of forest fires so the TVCA is working on grants from the provincial government under the provincial programs to mitigate fire risk in the area. Grants for crown as well as individual properties are available and the TVCA stands ready to help residents to access these resources.
